A short history and a bit of information

Nine years ago we started with Dial-A-Friend in the area which made contact with key families. Through the contacts built there and the openness of the families, a small team began visiting the families more often in August 1999. More and more the need for a “Sunday School” was realised and wanted by the parents. In January 2000 Kidz Klub began led by Jez Gledhill.

Four and a half years later this is where we are…

250 kids visited weekly

170 families visited weekly

35+ adults to the breakfasts

60-90 kids every Saturday

500+ kids through the door over 4 ½ years

250+ families contacted

Kidz Klub does not just operate for the kids. Our heart is to see the parents, grandparents and the whole community touched by the love of Jesus and come to understand the four most important things:

  • God loves me
  • I have sinned
  • Jesus died for me
  • I need to decide to live for God

Nearly every child who comes knows them all. Through these and all the other things that are part of Kidz Klub we want to bring hope and value to each child and family that we have contact with.

Kidz Klub ’ s vision!!!

The heart of Kidz Klub is to invest relationally into the families of Walsall with the unconditional love of Jesus.

Our heart: be a part of what God is doing

Matthew 28: 18a-20

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching then to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Where' s the best place to be on a Saturday morning???

… Kidz Klub!!!

Saturday mornings are fast, furious and tremendous fun, for the kids and leaders. Through games, songs, object lessons and stories we teach biblical values such as self-worth, discipline and obedience, imparting the unconditional love of God into their lives. We have explored moral issues in ways relevant to their culture, empowering the kids to apply God’s values in their lives each day.

We have best behaviour trips every term in order to reward good behaviour. This is a great opportunity to spend time with the kids at a much greater level.

Knock, knock!!

The mid-week visits are where the one-to-one relationships are built. This level of interaction is crucial as it is the place where we build on the foundations laid on Saturday mornings. Each week we go to the houses of the kids that come to Kidz Klub to take them a Kidz Klub worksheet. The worksheets have activities on them and the following week’s memory verse for them to learn. It is also a time where we can get to know the community, and they can get to know us and become integrated into their lives

We visit over 250 kids every week; which takes each pair around three hours to visit their kids.

We now have five visiting pairs that go out every week to meet with the children and their families. These visits are increasing and so is the time that is spent with the families.

Yum, yum!!

Meals

We have a family meal every term. These are great times to serve and socialise with the families in the community. These are times loved by all, with over 90 people coming to last few meals that we have done.

During the meals the workers sit with the families while they are served by different members of the church. Food has ranged from BBQ’s to Christmas dinners with a massive range of deserts. We also have a talky bit in where we are able to share the truth of God with them in a real and relevant way.

Breakfasts

We have breakfasts for the parents of the children in Kidz Klub and any other people in the community that wish to attend. These take place while Kidz Klub is on and is open to anyone to come to and have some breakfast. The response so far has been fantastic. And everyone enjoys the sausage and bacon sandwiches made by the team.

These are important times in developing relationships with the parents and others in the community, providing many opportunities to serve them and to be part of their lives at a deeper level.

The Four Most Important Things

The four most important things are at the heart of Kidz Klub. They give a basic introduction to the Christian faith at a level the children can understand. They are used in a variety of ways; sometimes in the teaching times on Saturdays, sometimes on the weekly sheet given out on visits, and sometimes they are used as questions for picking people to play the games.

1. God loves me

He certainly does. God loves you so much that there is nothing that you could ever do that would stop him loving you.
God created you, and He has a plan for your life, but more than that, He loved you so much that He let His son Jesus die on the cross, so that you could always return his love.

2. I have sinned

We all have. Nobody is perfect. We do wrong things and have wrong thoughts - but even this does not stop God loving us.
He loves YOU - but not the wrong things you do!

3. Jesus died for me

The reason Jesus came to earth was to die on the cross. Jesus came to give us freedom from Satan, loneliness, hopelessness etc.

You see, God is perfect and we are not. The only way for us to meet with God is if we are forgiven.
Jesus died to take away the bad things (sins) that we have done. When we say sorry, God forgives us and treats us like we have never done anything wrong. All because Jesus died in our place.

4. I need to decide to live for God

God gives us a choice, to live our lives with Him or without Him. If we choose to believe in Him and to live our lives for Him, we will live forever with Him in heaven after we die. If we do not choose Him, and live our lives without God, then we will not be able to live with God after we die. You only stay at someones house if you know them. It is a bit like that with God in heaven.
